Two grammar pieces work together. ~のを恐れる ('fear doing X') uses the nominalizer の to turn the verb 会う into something object-markable, which 恐れて then takes as its complement. 身を隠す (lit. 'hide one's body') is a set phrase for going into hiding — disappearing from sight to avoid someone, often appearing in stories of fugitives, witnesses, or characters in trouble. The て-form of 恐れる links the two clauses with a cause-effect reading: 'fearing X, [therefore] she hid.'
