[adjective]+目で見る (look at someone in some way)

A productive frame for describing the manner of looking at someone: [adjective]+目で見る, literally '[look at someone] with [adjective] eyes.' 冷たい目で ('coldly'), 優しい目で ('tenderly'), 厳しい目で ('sternly'), 疑いの目で ('suspiciously'). The emotional content lives in the modifier of 目, not in 見る itself.
