~だけが (only X)

The combination だけ + が, giving an exclusive 'only X (and no one else)' focus on the subject. Stronger and more pointedly exclusive than だけ alone. 息子だけが生きがい ('only her son is her reason for living'). Distinct from しか~ない (only X, with mandatory negative).
