得る (gain, obtain)

The verb 得る (える / うる) 'to gain, obtain, secure' — formal/literary, used in business and written contexts. Common collocations: 職を得る ('secure a position'), 信頼を得る ('gain trust'), 知識を得る ('acquire knowledge'). The auxiliary use ~得る gives 'be possible to' (ありうる, etc.).
