Japanese culture treats the handkerchief (ハンカチ) as an expected daily-carry item — public bathrooms typically don't supply paper towels or hand dryers, so adults carry their own cloth handkerchief for hand-drying. Both sexes participate, and gift sets of patterned handkerchiefs are common.
