欲しがる (third-person want)

The suffix ~がる attached to 欲しい ('want [object]'), forming 欲しがる ('show signs of wanting'). Used for third-person desires since Japanese reserves bare 欲しい for the speaker's own feelings. Note the particle shift: 帽子が欲しい but 帽子を欲しがる.
