The verb 肩をたたく ('tap / pat on the shoulder') used for a friendly or attention-getting gesture. Note also the noun 肩たたき, which has acquired an additional workplace meaning: a tactful suggestion that an employee retire or step down — a 'shoulder tap' that quietly conveys 'it's time.'
