稽古 (traditional practice)

稽古 (けいこ) — the disciplined practice of a traditional Japanese art: tea ceremony, flower arrangement, calligraphy, Noh, kabuki, traditional music and dance, and martial arts. Implies a master-disciple lineage with established forms (型) drilled through repetition. Carries a more disciplined, traditional coloring than the broader 練習 (used for any kind of practice) or the loanword レッスン.
