Japanese has several names for coffee-and-drink venues, each with its own flavor: 喫茶店 (kissaten) for traditional Showa-era cafes with siphon coffee and toast; カフェ for modern Western-style coffee shops; コーヒー店 as a generic descriptive term; カフェテリア for buffet-style self-serve canteens in workplaces and schools.
