こそあど (demonstratives)

The Japanese four-series demonstrative system: こ- (proximal, near speaker: この, ここ, これ, こう, こんな), そ- (medial, near listener or previously mentioned: その, そこ, それ, そう, そんな), あ- (distal, far from both or out of sight: あの, あそこ, あれ, ああ, あんな), and ど- (interrogative: どの, どこ, どれ, どう, どんな). Extends uniformly across nouns, places, manners, and kinds — a core structural feature of Japanese deixis.
