事 written in kanji (vs こと)

The grammatical nominalizer こと is conventionally written in kana in modern Japanese, but older or more formal writing sometimes uses the kanji 事. The kanji form looks slightly more written/old-fashioned and concrete; the kana form reads as more modern and grammatical.
