薬指 (medicine finger / ring finger)

The Japanese name for the ring finger, 薬指 ('medicine finger'), said to derive from the old practice of using this finger to apply medicine. Each finger has its own native name: 親指 (thumb), 人差し指 (index), 中指 (middle), 薬指 (ring), 小指 (little).
