むせる (to choke)

The everyday verb むせる ('to choke, to gag'), used for food, drink, or smoke that has gone the wrong way down the throat. Distinct from literary むせぶ ('to sob, be choked with emotion') and from 詰まる ('be blocked') for full obstruction.
