~中 (in the middle of)

The suffix 中 (ちゅう) attached to a noun (often a verbal noun) to mark an ongoing state: 会議中 ('in a meeting'), 食事中 ('having a meal'), 工事中 ('under construction'). Productive and crisp; preferred in written Japanese over the longer ~ている rephrasing.
