~に触れる (come into contact with)

The verb 触れる taking に to mark what one is coming into contact with — abstract topics, cultures, ideas, art, not just physical objects. A characteristic Japanese way to talk about exposure to or initial engagement with something — 文化に触れる ('encounter a culture'), 問題に触れる ('touch on a topic'), 法律に触れる ('run afoul of the law'). The physical-contact metaphor maps onto initial or partial mental contact.
