人形 (Japanese dolls)

Japan has a rich doll tradition: 雛人形 displayed for Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day), 五月人形 for Children's Day (こいのぼり season), Daruma figures, kokeshi from Tohoku, and ritual purification dolls (人形流し) that absorb misfortune. The word 人形 covers any human-shaped figurine, traditional or modern.
