The formal compound ~のもとに (also ~のもとで), 'on the basis of X / under X / with X as the precondition or governing force.' Uses もと ('origin, foundation, under'); written register. Common for agreements, authority, governing principles, ideologies: 法のもとに/で ('under the law'), 合意のもとに ('on the basis of agreement'), 神のもとで ('under God').
