~のようなもの (something like)

The nominal-simile pattern [N1]+のような+[N2], 'a [N2] like [N1].' When the right-hand noun is bare もの, the meaning is 'something like X / a kind of X' — a soft analogy used when the speaker can't name X exactly. Colloquial contraction: ~のようなもん.
