~を得る (obtain, formal)

The verb 得る ('to obtain, gain, acquire'), more formal than 手に入れる or もらう and used in slightly elevated written Japanese for both concrete acquisitions (職を得る, 'obtain a position') and abstract ones (信頼を得る, 'gain trust').
