お開き (auspicious closing)

An auspicious euphemism for 'closing, ending' of meetings, parties, and gatherings — used as the noun お開き, in the verbal collocation お開きにする ('wrap up, call it a night'), or as お開きになる ('the gathering ends'). Uses 開き ('opening') to avoid the finalistic/inauspicious 終わる ('to end'), especially in wedding contexts; framing dispersal as 'opening outward' rather than terminating. A classic example of lexical taboo avoidance in Japanese.
