~終える (finish doing)

The compound-verb suffix ~終える ('finish'), attached to a verb's masu-stem to mean 'finish doing X.' Closely related to ~終わる but slightly more active and goal-directed (the doer brings the action to completion). 飲み終える, 食べ終える, 書き終える, etc.
