折り紙 (origami)

The Japanese art of paper folding (折り紙, literally 'folding paper'). Ranging from simple cranes to complex figures, origami is taught to children and practiced as an art form. 千羽鶴 (senbazuru, a thousand paper cranes) are folded as wishes for health or peace.
