words for husband (夫/主人/旦那)

Japanese has multiple words for one's own husband, each with its own register: 夫 (neutral standard), 主人 ('master of the house', polite but increasingly seen as patriarchal), 旦那 (colloquial, originally Sanskrit 'dāna' for patron). For someone else's husband, ご主人 is the polite reference.
