~終わる (finish doing)

The auxiliary ~終わる ('finish doing') attached to a verb's masu-stem to mean 'finish X-ing.' Productive: 食べ終わる, 読み終わる, 書き終わる. The transitive counterpart ~終える exists for some verbs but is more formal.
