~らしい (suffix forming adjective: '~-like, ~-ish')

The auxiliary ~らしい attached to a noun or adjective stem to mean 'having the qualities of X / -like / characteristic of / befitting X.' 男らしい ('manly'), 子供らしい ('childlike'), かわいらしい ('cute, sweet'), 自分らしい ('one's own self'). Distinct from the inferential ~らしい ('apparently, it seems'), which attaches to plain forms of clauses.
