その上 (moreover)

The conjunctive connector その上 (also written そのうえ), 'moreover / on top of that / what's more / to make matters worse / and what's more.' Adds an additional, often reinforcing or escalating fact to the previous clause. Slightly more formal-feeling than それに or しかも; common in written and reportorial register.
