卒業式 (graduation ceremony)

The graduation ceremony held in March at the end of the Japanese school year. A formal, emotionally charged event: students receive 卒業証書 (diploma rolls), sing 仰げば尊し or 蛍の光, and traditions like 第二ボタン (giving the second button of one's uniform jacket to an admirer) attach to high-school graduations in particular.
