SOV word order

The canonical Japanese sentence order: Subject → Object → Verb, with particles marking each role. Unlike English SVO, the verb anchors the end of the clause and everything preceding it is scaffolding. Word order can shift for emphasis (scrambling), but SOV is the neutral baseline.
