~過ぎ (past, after)

The suffix ~過ぎ ('past, after') attached to a time or quantity expression to mean 'past X / after X.' 5時過ぎ ('past 5 o'clock'), 30分過ぎ ('30 minutes past'), 昼過ぎ ('past noon'). Same root as the verb 過ぎる ('pass'). Distinct from the 'to excess' verb-stem + 過ぎ pattern (食べ過ぎ 'overeating').
