ただ~だけで (just merely X)

The combination ただ ('merely, just') + だけ ('only') + で (the te-form of だ) for emphatic minimization: 'just X-ing, doing nothing else / merely X.' Often introduces a contrast clause expressing what the subject doesn't do.
