べたべた (sticky / clingy)

A 擬態語 with three related senses: (1) physically sticky or gooey texture — 手がべたべたする ('my hands are sticky'); (2) plastering things messily all over a surface — 張り紙をべたべた ('posters stuck everywhere'); (3) being overly clingy or affectionate — 人前でべたべたする ('PDA'). Sometimes written in katakana (ベタベタ) for emphasis, especially for the clingy sense.
