Words borrowed into Japanese from German, particularly during the Meiji and early Shōwa eras when German influence was strong in medicine, philosophy, and the sciences. Examples: アレルギー (Allergie, allergy), カルテ (Karte, medical chart), アルバイト (Arbeit, part-time job), テーマ (Thema, theme).
