The verb 待つ ('wait') takes the thing waited for with を, not に — 彼を待つ ('wait for him'), 結果を待つ ('wait for the result'), 電話を待っている ('waiting for a call'). A minor pattern worth noting because English 'wait FOR X' suggests a preposition, but Japanese treats what's waited for as a direct object.
