見せる vs 見える (intrans/trans pair)

The transitive 見せる ('show, display, cause to be seen') paired with the intransitive 見える ('to be visible, appear in view, can be seen'). Japanese distinguishes deliberate showing from passive visibility through paired verbs — a pattern repeated across many verb pairs (開ける/開く, つける/つく, 出す/出る). One of many such pairs in Japanese verb morphology where the same root yields both the 'do' and the 'happen / be in state' versions.
