~と言われる (be told)

The pattern [clause]+と言われる, the passive 言われる combined with the quotative と, meaning 'is said to X / be told that X / people say that X.' Used for reporting what someone said to you, or for general 'people say' to attribute an opinion or claim to others without identifying who.
