~ゆく (literary ~いく)

A literary form of 行く ('to go') or of the auxiliary ~ていく — 駆けてゆく ('runs away') versus the modern 駆けていく; often appears without the て in compound forms like 消えゆく. Preserved in essays, poetry, and titles for a more elevated, narrative tone.
