noun predicate

A nominal predicate — a sentence whose predicate is a noun, taking the copula (だ / です / だった). Core structure of identification, categorization, and many state descriptions: 彼は学生だ ('he is a student'), 水曜日です ('it's Wednesday'), 雨だ ('it's raining'). In casual speech the copula often drops entirely (copula omission).
