Suffix added to nouns referring to people (or sometimes animals or personified things) to indicate plurality or a group. Optional — Japanese nouns are number-neutral by default — so its presence emphasizes multiplicity or includes 'and others.' 私たち ('we/us'), 子供たち ('children'), 友達 ('friend → friends, lexicalized'), 田中さん達 ('Tanaka and the others'). 達 is the kanji form; たち is the hiragana form.
